ZHENGZHOU, Nov. 23 -- The first batch of the 4th Chinese peacekeeping military utility helicopter unit to UNISFA to the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), consisting of 60 members, left Zhengzhou City by a transport plane of the PLA Air Force on November 22. They were leaving for Abyei region in East Africa to take on the 12-month peacekeeping mission.
The contingent, mainly drawn from an air assault brigade under the PLA 83rd Group Army, was composed of a flight company, a maintenance company, a service company, and a level-I hospital, with members involving 30 specialties such as flight, maintenance, guard and medical service.
Before their departure, the peacekeepers received targeted training based on the characteristics of the mission. Once arriving at the mission area, they will undertake force projection, air patrol, material transportation and other tasks according to the overall arrangement of the UNISFA.
It is learned that the second batch of the helicopter contingent will head to the mission area in December.
