BEIJING, Oct. 31 -- An awarding ceremony was held at the Super Camp of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) in Wau on October 28. All the 331 peacekeepers of the 13th Chinese peacekeeping horizontal engineering company and Level-II hospital to UNMISS were awarded the UN peace medals in recognition of their outstanding performance during the fulfillment of peacekeeping missions and contributions to maintaining peace in South Sudan.
Before the ceremony, the UNMISS Sector West Commander inspected the Chinese peacekeeping troops' formations accompanied by the commanding officer of the Chinese peacekeeping engineering contingent. He said that the 13th Chinese peacekeeping horizontal engineering company and Level-II hospital to UNMISS completed various commissions to a high standard, contributed China's strength to advancing the peace process in South Sudan by taking the responsibilities of a major country, and served as a role model for the peacekeeping mission area.
At the awarding ceremony, UNMISS officials presented the Command Commendation to the Chinese peacekeeping representative and awarded all the peacekeepers of the contingent the UN peace medals.
The 13th batch of the Chinese peacekeeping horizontal engineering company and the Level-II hospital to UNMISS has been deployed to the mission area in December 2022. The engineering contingent took charge of key road rehabilitation, livelihood facilities maintenance and humanitarian aid tasks, having repaired more than 220 kilometers of roads and completed more than 160 engineering projects accumulatively. The medical contingent was primarily responsible for the daily medical support for UN staff members and peacekeeping troops as well as emergency medical rescue, having conducted a total of 1,435 treatments and 24 operations until now.
