HONG KONG, Sept. 11 – A celebration event for the 16th Military Summer Camp for Hong Kong Youth was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center on the evening of September 11.
The Military Summer Camp for Hong Kong Youth is jointly organized by the Hong Kong Concerted Efforts Resource Center, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Hong Kong Garrison. The first event was launched in July 2005, and thousands of Hong Kong youth have participated since then.
The 16th Military Summer Camp for Hong Kong Youth was held from July 22 to 30 this year. During the summer camp, students received systematic training on various military subjects, attended lectures on national affairs, observed and experienced multiple types of weapons and equipment.
John Lee, Chief Executive of the HKSAR, said in his speech on the evening of September 11 that he felt that the military summer camp’s students are striving to fulfill the expectations of the country for Hong Kong's youth and that he felt proud of their growth. Young people are the future of China and the future of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong SAR government is creating opportunities for young people to showcase their potential, enhance self-improvement, and strengthen their national pride and sense of belonging. Lee hoped that they would become talents capable of contributing to the country and taking on the responsibility of building Hong Kong.
Nearly 500 people attended the evening event, including Liu Guangyuan, Deputy Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR, Fang Jianming, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China in the HKSAR, Liu Weihua, Deputy Commander of the Combined-arms Brigade of the Chinese PLA Hong Kong Garrison, as well as students from the 16th Military Summer Camp for Hong Kong Youth, graduates from previous summer camps and volunteers.
